Letter to the Churches: Why are we here on Earth?
1.) We are to worship God. We are to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37) God created us to be in fellowship with Him and to enjoy a close, intimate relationship with our Creator. This is true for individuals and for the churches alike. When we gather together, God delights in the praise and adoration of His people. Worshipping God is a powerful expression of our dependence on our Lord and Savior for forgiveness, grace, and strength. Exalting the Lord also helps us put life in perspective as we contemplate God’s holiness and omnipotence. We are to be unapologetic and enthusiastic in our worship of God. We are to worship Him in Spirit and truth.
2.) We are to build disciples. Disciples are students of Jesus Christ. The greatest picture of a disciple is the woman, Mary, in the book of Luke, chapter 10, verses 38 through 42. Mary was totally enraptured by Christ and His teachings. She wanted to be nowhere else and desired nothing more than to sit at His feet and hear His Word.
3.) We are to serve one another. We are a family divinely instituted by God (Deuteronomy 14:2) As such; it is our duty to act as a family. For hundreds of years, our family has been split apart because of pointless bickering and squabbling. Our Father wants His family to be whole and happy. This pleases Him. This was also Jesus’ final prayer before He was arrested in Gethsemane, that we be one. (John 17)
4.) We are to be a witness to the nations. The Bible says that God’s people would be known by the fruit in their lives. (Matthew 7) And also that are being one family would be a witness to the world that God sent Jesus Christ and He loves us.
5.) We are to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Here in the United States, we have unprecedented freedom and are blessed with comforts and technology not seen anywhere else in the world. Unfortunately, those comforts have made us too comfortable and we have lost some of our zeal. Could it be because we are so spread out because of divisions in our family we are not as effective as we could be if we were together?
It has been some time ago when God first spoke to me about Christian unity. I had a vision about 8 years ago of a large number of people worshipping God together. In my dream, this large gathering was in a large stadium and many denominations were represented.
When I awoke from the dream, I became very excited just knowing the Holy Spirit had spoken to me in a dream. I dug into my Bible and found the words of Jesus leaping off the pages at me and into my heart from John 17, “That all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You sent Me. I have given them the glory You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one: I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”
The Lord says that our being one shows the world that God sent Jesus and that He loves us. It is proof of the love of God for the world!
Years have passed and opportunities have come and gone but I know that one day, the Body of Christ will unite and we will take the Gospel to the four corners of this world as never before! Then a great harvest will come about and “a multitude that could not be counted” will turn to God!
It will happen. Amen.
